Here we go again. Currently this Sunday afternoon, a few isolated thunderstorms are moving into Texoma. They are not severe, but given the environment, they could be startling with small hail and stronger winds. The higher threat of severe storms will occur later Sunday evening between 5pm and 10pm. Here’s why: There is a dryline setting up far to our West close to the Western Oklahoma border. We will be monitoring this area for potentially dangerous storm development throughout the afternoon.

All of Texoma is under an Enhanced risk (Level 3 out of 5) for severe storms this Saturday afternoon. Large hail (up to 3″) and damaging winds (80+ mph) are the most likely hazards associated with these storms, but a potential tornado cannot be ruled out. Storms are expected to start firing up this afternoon with the strongest activity between 5pm and 10pm. Storms will end for today by 11pm.

I’m only going to focus on the storm chances in this post because there is a lot to cover (Thanks to the National Weather Service for a lot of this post’s analysis). Expect warm and muggy conditions during all days with a severe threat. For today (Friday), nearly all of Texoma will remain storm-free. There is a chance of a stray thunderstorm developing in our far Southeast counties between 4-8pm. The risks would be large hail and damaging winds.

Temperatures are topping out between 100 and 104 degrees this Friday afternoon with some areas showing Heat Index values of 110 degrees or higher. Unfortunately, it’s only going to get hotter for Saturday and Sunday. Please practice heat safety if you plan to spend an extended amount of time outdoors. Wear sunscreen, take shade breaks, stay hydrated and stay cool Texoma!Saturday and Sunday’s high temperature will near 105 degrees with the Heat Index returning to higher than 110 degrees.

If you liked Saturday’s temperatures, Sunday will be just as nice if only a degree or two warmer. Winds will be more noticeable ahead of some severe thunderstorms expected to push into Texoma as early as 8pm Sunday night. Similar to Thursday night’s storms, these will be a wait and watch during the day Sunday. Storms will move through all of Oklahoma during the day and what we see in Texoma Sunday night will depend on how they develop during the day.

Absolute nightmare Saturday night in our Texoma communities. Multiple towns directly hit by tornadoes. The damage I saw last night from Sulphur broke my heart.
