The Sudreau Global Justice Institute is an organization based out of Pepperdine’s Caruso School of Law that seeks to end systemic injustice globally and equip students and practicing attorneys to aid in that cause. Beginning in 2009, the SGJI has enjoyed a long-standing memorandum of understanding with the Ugandan Judiciary that allows both parties to partner together to implement plea bargaining for prisoners throughout the nation. The Prison Project is one of their most ambitious initiatives.

Third PlacesWhen social scientists mention a location that is separate from the home or the workplace, they traditionally use the term “third place.” It is an umbrella term that refers to any communal place where groups of people gather, often a café, marketplace, park, etc. Most sociologists accept that third places benefit communities greatly and are often paramount to cultivating civic engagement and a sense of belonging among the people who utilize the space.

On April 10th, the Student Government Association rejected a proposal to raise the Campus Life Fee. Freshman Class President Abner Martinez and Student Body President Michael Sugimoto, the co-authors of this proposal, argued that it was necessary to raise the fee due to its not having been raised from its current amount of $252 since 2011, indicating that the fee has not been adjusted to account for inflation.

On April 30, 1975, American troops withdrew from the Vietnamese city of Saigon. This formally marked the end of American involvement in Vietnam and the end of the Vietnam War with the collapse of the South Vietnamese government. Formally, the war was over, and by most metrics, it was a significant blow to the power and preeminence of the United States’ military power. To a significant portion of the American population, the war was a travesty from the beginning.
