WASHINGTON — Sen. Ruben Gallego is leading a bipartisan bill to adjust federal firearm definitions and support law enforcement use of non-lethal devices. The Innovate to De-Escalate Modernization Act, co-sponsored by Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), would add a new category in federal law for “less-than-lethal projectile devices.” The change is intended to clarify how these devices are classified and remove legal confusion that law enforcement groups say limits their use.
