St. Rose boys basketball coach Brian Lynch is returning to his alma mater and taking over as head coach at Christian Brothers. Lynch led St. Rose to the last two Shore Conference titles. He also won a Non-Public B championship in 2024 with a St. Rose team that finished No. 1 in the NJ.com Top 20. The Purples Roses won three South, Non-Public B championships under Lynch. Lynch was an All-State guard at Christian Brothers in the 1990s.

Prior to about 8:30 Saturday night, Westfield had not won a Union County Tournament championship since 2017 because archrival Summit simply wouldn’t budge in those subsequent finals. Bergen Catholic won a second straight Bergen County Tournament crown in 2015, but, up until Friday night, had not been able to return to the final. Don Bosco Prep, Ridgewood, Northern Highlands and Ramapo all shoehorned their way in front of the Crusaders in the race to the championship game.
