    Iowa City Police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for a fatal weekend shooting. Antavis M.W. Watson, 44, was arrested with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service on three separate charges on Tuesday for first-degree murder, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm by a felon. The charges come three days after police announced that an Iowa City man, now identified as Elijah Williams, 38, was allegedly shot and killed shortly before midnight on Saturday, March 30.

    The dreaded March blizzard has arrived, bringing with it plenty of blowing snow and troublesome road conditions. The Iowa DOT says travel is not advised across much of Story and Boone counties throughout Wednesday, according to 511ia.org. Story County Emergency Management, in a Facebook post Wednesday morning, noted that several local highways were "impassable" due to "white out" conditions and drifting. "Stay off the roads," the local organization said.

    The Des Moines Police Department announced the city's first traffic fatality on Sunday morning. Authorities responded to a single-car accident around 3:30 a.m. in the Hobby Lobby parking lot at 4080 Merle Hay Road, according to a DMPD news release. First responders discovered a 2012 Chevrolet Impala that had crashed into a light pole. The driver, a 59-year-old male, was the only occupant in the vehicle.     A week slammed with snow is giving way to an extended cold snap in Iowa. The National Weather Service in Des Moines predicts five consecutive days of “extreme” cold as part of an arctic blast, starting today and carrying through much of the week. “Dangerously cold” wind chills are expected to blow into Iowa on Sunday, dropping as low as 39 degrees below zero in northern Iowa by Tuesday morning while actual temperatures will also stay below zero.
