From the past co-editors:Dear UNC Asheville,Before I transferred to UNCA, I worked at a factory. There were a series of rooms inside this factory, tucked onto a side street parallel to downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. A few of the rooms anchored those needing a place to relax, like an indoor basketball court and a break room kitchen.

On Wednesday Oct. 30, Governor and vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz flew into Asheville to host a rally at the Orange Peel in downtown. “He talked about how resilient we are as a community, and I hope they bring that same resilience and tenacity when they’re our next administration in the white house,” said Preston Blakely, 30-year-old Mayor of Fletcher.

Fletcher mayor Preston Blakely, Canton mayor Zeb Smathers, State Rep. Eric Ager, State Senator Julie Mayfield, President of Legislature Labs Mark Pennypacker and campaign Super volunteer Brenda Mills were in attendance to accompany Walz to the Orange Peel where he held a rally to urge voters to the polls on Tuesday.

In the wake of hurricane Helene, the River arts District was left in utter disarray. With floodwater reaching nearly 26 feet in height, recovery for the area will be a lengthy process.

Following the wake of Hurricane Helene, volunteers gathered to clean up the flooded art studios of Riverside Station in the River arts District. Matthew Rawlings and his wife coordinated the effort to clean up the river-side art studios. “It’s been really awesome that so many members of the community have come down to help,” Rawlings said. According to Rawlings, he sought the help of a restoration company at first but looked into gathering volunteers because of the high pricing.

On Thursday August 29, the Red Cross began their 2-day blood drive in the basement of Highsmith. Gail Barksdale, account manager for the American Red Cross said the Red Cross began an appeal on August 5 to combat the national blood shortage. “A lot of things are impacting blood donations right now, like hurricanes and widespread illnesses, those kinds of things are causing blood drives to be canceled and put us deeper in the shortage,” Barksdale said.

As a child I was constantly immersed in the act of trying to manifest my imagination. The world around me felt so dull and devoid of flavor in comparison to the vibrant untamed musing going on in my own mindscape. As a boy of 8 years old I developed an early penchant for coming up with my own elaborate stories, complete with settings, characters and my own interpretations of how a plot would work.
