NILES — Playing against the top-ranked team in the state can always be a tough situation. It can be even tougher when that top-ranked team is hosting you in the one-loss knockout of the MHSAA post season. Niles Brandywine stayed true to itself on Monday, playing a physical style of basketball that sped up Bronson, forced turnovers and uncomfortable ply for the Vikings. What happens to a trendy movement once the buzz dies down For years, Austin’s culinary scene had an unofficial mascot that rolled around in mud. In the early 2010s, restaurateurs went hog wild on porcine imagery – allowing locals to grab a sandwich at Noble Pig, score happy hour deals at Salty Sow, and enjoy an elegant prix fixe at Barley Swine. One of Texas' best vineyards has much more than the Lone Star State under its spell. This is its third year in a row on the list; in 2023, it was No. 60. Despite a slight drop in the rankings, this is still a huge accomplishment. There are more than 100 wineries in the Hill Country, and William Chris was the only one to make the 51-100 list.

A new wave of enthusiasm for the 36-year-old Shops at Rivercenter is injecting the mall with new vibrancy. As CultureMap previously reported, Australian hospitality company Funlab sees the once-popular shopping destination as a fairway to stateside expansion. A release reveals that the company will open its first San Antonio project, Holey Moley Mini Golf Club, in early December. The massive 12,000-square-foot facility is a far cry from the putt-putt courses of midcentury America.

Football may be the state's obsession, but arguing about food is a close second. When an authoritative list like Texas Monthly's 50 Best Tacos in Texas is released, plenty of armchair quarterbacks argue over what taco editor José Ralat got right — and wrong. Although Ralat has served in his post since 2019, the October 21 rankings were his first definitive overview of Texas' best tacos. The editor traveled 14,000 miles, tasting tacos from Amarillo to Brownsville.
