NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Friday brought sunshine and cool temperatures across the area, with highs in the 50s. Most of the recent snow has melted, except for spots shaded from the sun. Clear skies and calm conditions tonight will lead to another cold night, with lows dropping to the mid-30s. Some areas may see a light to moderate freeze, especially in low-lying spots, but conditions will begin warming over the weekend.

This is a great way to increase awareness. As a surf‑rescue lifeguard for nearly 10 years, I’ve performed hundreds of water rescues and responded to dozens of fatal drownings due to rip currents. In most cases, people simply didn’t realize how dangerous the water was.

During the past decade there has been an increase in surf and rip current fatalities in the United States. Many of these fatalities occur when swells from distant hurricanes cause dangerous surf and rip current conditions along the U.S. coastline. NHC will provide rip current https://t.co/k9aQ5OHeLN
