Tampa Bay’s rapid growth has led to years of a steady economic boom, but Tampa International Airport CEO Michael Stephens said its “Achilles’ heel” has long been its inability to connect the region. On Friday, Stephens spoke to roughly 200 business leaders at the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s first Power Breakfast of 2025. It was Stephens' first day as CEO for one of the largest economic drivers in the region as former CEO Joe Lopano retired this week after 14 years in the role.

The All for Transportation funds will allow more than 200 transportation projects to move forward. Commuters in Hillsborough County could finally begin to see significant road improvements as the county prepares to support more than 70 road projects. On Wednesday, Hillsborough County commissioners approved agreements with the Florida Department of Transportation to allocate more than $208.59 million from the All for Transportation funds to support 77 projects in the county.

During her inauguration ceremony on March 31, Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg outlined three goals she intends to prioritize for the University of Tampa. The event marked Dahlberg’s one-year anniversary as UTampa’s 11th president. She stated she intends to focus on increasing UTampa’s impact on students and the community, elevating its reputation throughout the country and growing the university’s endowment. “Our programs are built upon a strong liberal arts foundation,” Dahlberg said.
