The Capon Chapel Memorial service was held on Sunday, May 25. The attendance was light but folks were generous with their contributions. Funds collected were set aside for the mowing and maintenance of the cemetery. It was a sunny but cool day and the flags on our veterans’ graves looked patriotic fluttering on the breeze. We are grateful to the Capon Bridge American Legion Post for providing the flags and holders and for being there to make sure they were placed. Thank you.

Capon Bridge has lost one of its oldest citizens, Dorothy Swisher, the widow of Grayson and the mother of five children. The Swisher family touched many lives. Grayson, who died a few years ago, drove generations of our children to school every day. Dorothy was a witness to much of the early history of Capon Bridge and provided valuable material to the Capon Bridge Library for their recent book “Bridges Spanning Time”. Dorothy passed away on May 10 at the age of 98. She was born in 1926.

Soon the peepers will wake up and begin their spring chorus. It is time to look for our returning bird species and to clean out our bird boxes as well. The state is restocking our trout streams for the dedicated fishermen.
