Citizens of Orangeville were having troubles, the Nov. 14, 1940, Warren Tribune Chronicle front page stated. It was because of two Thanksgiving Days that year. Although officially a Trumbull County town, the little village, population 500, lay partly in Ohio and partly in Pennsylvania, divided down the middle by, you guessed it, Main Street. The problem? Ohio was celebrating Thanksgiving on Nov. 21, while across the street, Pennsylvania was celebrating one week later, on Nov. 28.

Over the last few years, Division V, Region 17 has been one of the toughest regions. Two big reasons why are South Range and Perry. In a rematch of last year’s regional final, the Raiders take on Perry once again in an effort to make a repeat trip to Canton. Few teams make it this far, and South Range coach David Rach has been reminding his team of that. To still be playing is a blessing, and he wants them to play like it.

There’s just something about the yellowed, brittle pages of an old newspaper that makes me feel nostalgic. Unless I’m sitting on my living room couch on a Sunday afternoon, or on a stool at my kitchen counter early in the morning, these days I seem to be spending precious fewer minutes reading the printed newspaper. When I’m at work, it’s become much more convenient to read the daily publication via the “all-access e-edition” on my computer screen.
