    There's a new generation of pit masters in the Rio Grande Valley. High school students are now showcasing their skills on the grill and also learning important life skills. "A lot of us, especially in the FAA or CTE groups work all year kind of perfecting it, so this is kind of our time you know," La Feria Independent School District senior David Ramos said. Barbecue competitions are growing among high school students across the Lone Star state. It's a hobby Ramos takes pride in.

These ladies are not riding on horseback like people normally would, but they're riding on side-saddle while performing a routine.

    The November elections are about a month away, and an important date voters need to know about is inching closer. Monday is the deadline to register to vote. Election officials want to remind voters to update their voter registration information if they recently moved within county limits. Right now, Cameron County has over 236,000 registered voters and Hidalgo County has around 444,000 registered voters.

    A Cameron County deputy constable was killed in a Monday crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Cameron County officials and other law enforcement agencies sent their condolences to the family of Cameron County Precinct 1 Deputy Constable Ruben Garcia. The crash happened Monday at around 6:45 p.m. on State Highway 48 near Marine Way Road in Brownsville when a white Chevrolet Silverado rear-ended a patrol unit occupied by Garcia, according to a DPS news release.

    Around 30 parents showed up at the Brownsville ISD Police Department headquarters to learn about what to do in different emergency situations. Brownsville ISD police officers spent the first day of the parent-police academy going over school safety, and school threats. “Our parents are our best source of information,” Brownsville ISD Police Sgt. Manuel Charles said.
