Alton City Manager Jeff Underwood said the street has a curb and gutters, causing any water that tries to move out of the neighborhood to end up at the end of the road, near Trosper Boulevard. “The issue there is that trooper does not have a drainage system, so the water accumulates at Trosper and Jefferson,” Underwood said.

    The city of Alton is investing in an $8 million drainage project to combat flooding. Residents living on Madison Street said the road turned into a lake during the 2018 and 2020 storms, and again in March 2025 during the historic rainfall and flooding event. "You could literally get on a freaking boat and run a boat in here, it was horrible,” resident Osvaldo Rivera said. Alton city leaders said Madison Street and East Polk Avenue currently lack drainage infrastructure.

    Driver killed after striking utility pole in Willacy CountyThe driver of a Corvette that struck a utility pole on Tuesday night has died, according to Raymondville Fire Chief Oscar Gutierrez. Gutierrez said the fire department was dispatched to 6th Street, west of FM 1015 at around 10 p.m. The Corvette veered off the roadway and struck the pole. The crash remains under investigation. Edinburg CISD Superintendent Mario H. Salinas was placed on paid administrative leave in connection with the incident that also led to the arrest of one student.
