Six months ago, the Vancouver Whitecaps were officially put up for sale and faced more uncertainty than a Canada Soccer board member, prior to 2023. Now, the Whitecaps are on the cusp of becoming the first Canadian club to be crowned continental champions. As the calendar flips to June, the Vancouver Whitecaps stand on the brink of history as they clash with Cruz Azul in Sunday’s CONCACAF Champions Cup final.

Just a week after Toronto FC’s offensive explosion in Montréal, the Reds were held to a stoppage-time goal in a 2-1 loss to Nashville SC on another Jacob Shaffelburg return to BMO Field. Nashville were more clinical on the evening, as you’d expect from a side that boasts two of the best attacking players in Major League Soccer. There are few players in Major League Soccer as lethal as Sam Surridge, who scored a second-half brace to add to his team-leading eight-goal tally.

CanMNT kick off their Gold Cup on June 17 at Vancouver’s BC Place against Honduras and continue it in Houston vs. Curaçao on June 21 and close out Group B play against El Salvador on June 24.

Jonathan David arrived at Lille as a fresh-faced 20-year-old. He leaves as an absolute legend. The Canadian men’s national team star played his final match in a Lille shirt on Saturday, a 2-1 win at home to Reims. After five seasons in France, David became one of the most prolific strikers in Europe and etched his name in Lille’s storied history forever. Linked with a move away in every transfer window following his World Cup debut in Qatar, David stayed and continued to deliver for Lille.

The only real disappointment is that #CanMNT didn’t score 8, and that more people weren’t there in Vancouver to see it.

The Stanley Cup did not come back to Canada this summer. But the Gold Cup might. #CanMNT destroyed Honduras 6-0 at BC Place in the Gold Cup opening match. It’s a shame so few were there to see it. https://t.co/mTgSknZrg7
