Everyone knows getting out of downtown after a sporting event can be a nightmare. So leave the car at home (or at a park-and-ride) and take the train. Orlando Magic fans will have another opportunity to ride SunRail for free to cheer on their home team this Tuesday, April 15, when the Magic take on the Atlanta Hawks for a chance to make it into the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Gametime is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kia Center.

Polasek Museum hires new director

The Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens Board of Directors has just announced that Jennifer Deery will be the museum’s new executive director, effective immediately. Deery has served as the Interim Director since January 2025 and was unanimously selected by the board to step into the permanent role. Deery served on the Polasek Museum Board of Directors from 2022 through 2024 with an emphasis on Development and Special Events, serving on the Executive Committee as secretary.

Wu-Tang Clan’s Masta Killa (Instagram) is bringing his Balance Tour to The Abbey Orlando on Wednesday, April 9, for a one-night-only performance. Clan. Born Elgin Turner on August 18, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the last official member to join the group. Known for his calm demeanor and smooth, deliberate flow, Masta Killa made his debut on the classic Wu-Tang track “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’” from their 1993 album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).

The Orange County Audubon Society (Website) is now accepting submissions for its 37th Annual Kit and Sidney Chertok Florida Native Nature Photography Contest (y’all need to stop making things with such long names). The contest is divided into Youth, Novice, and Advanced divisions. An application fee of $10 per image for non-Audubon members to submit in this year’s contest, with a maximum of five images per person. The youth fee is just $4 per image.

President Grant Cornwell declared today “Fox Day” at Rollins College. Fox Day is one of the private school’s most beloved traditions, and it was established in 1956 by Rollins’ 10th president, Hugh McKean. Each spring, on a day deemed “too pretty to have class,” the president cancels all classes for the College of Liberal Arts, providing undergraduate students and staff a surprise day off. Though alumni often observe the day as well if you’re suddenly missing all of your Winter Park staff.
