When he was a child Matthew Doyle was told by doctors that playing sports would not be in his future. The University of Elon senior currently leads the Palmetto Amateur by one shot at five-under. Early in his life, Doyle learned he was diagnosed with legg-calve-perthes, a rare condition where the head of the thigh bone, at the hip socket, is abnormally shaped. It limits his range of motion and worsens with impact and physical activity.

AUGUSTA – Jake Peacock of Milton captured his second-straight Georgia Amateur Championship title in dramatic fashion knocking in a long birdie on the 72nd hole to win by one stroke! The 103rd playing of the championship took place July 11-14 at Augusta Country Club. Peacock (68-70-67-70) began the final round with a three-stroke advantage over Brycen Jones of Thomasville (73-68-67-68) and Cooper Tendick of Kennesaw (71-67-70-73).

The best amateur golfers in the state of Georgia are in town this week to compete in the Georgia Amateur Championship at the Augusta Country Club. The Georgia Amateur Championship began in 1916 with Augusta National Golf Club co-founder Bobby Jones winning the inaugural title at Capital City Club in Atlanta. Augusta Country Club last hosted the tournament in 1991.
