(WJBF) – It was a long legal session behind closed doors, but city leaders are taking no new action on suspended Housing and Development Director Hawthorne Welcher. “I got to wait until we get all the information back from the audit etcetera and so we’ll take it and make a decision at that time,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne Guilfoyle. Welcher was placed on leave earlier this month, after commissioners approved reimbursing the federal government $6.5 million dollars.

(WJBF) – An Aiken woman has been arrested in a hit and run that happened in Early AprilReports say on April 4th, Aiken County Deputies responded to Abbeville Avenue and York Street regarding a person being hit by a car. The victim was breathing but unconscious. Witnesses told law enforcement that a person in white van, later identified as Elena Herrera-Cruz, took off from the scene.
Augusta man charged with Rape after Facebook meet-up turns violent, police say

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – An Augusta woman reported to Richmond county Sheriff’s Deputies that a man she met on Facebook raped her. According to incident reports, the alleged crime happened April 18th at the woman’s home on Lyman Street. She said the suspect, identified as Terrance McClain, was sitting on the foot of her bed while she was sitting near the headboard. When McClain attempted to touch her she allegedly told him she was not having sex with him.
