    I spent some time with Elon Musk in 2008. Musk was already business-famous then, having parlayed his profits as a member of the so-called PayPal mafia into SpaceX and Tesla. He was named CEO of Tesla that year, after becoming the lead investor in 2004. (I’d bet that to this day, 95 out of 100 people assume Musk founded Tesla; he did not.) He was also chairman of SolarCity, a residential solar installation startup that Tesla later acquired. I admired Musk a great deal.
