Kitchener’s newest artist in residence will create a new public art installation at the Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre. Tara Cooper, a multidisciplinary artist and associate professor in fine arts at the University of Waterloo, will lead a project that’s based around the theme of a community potluck. The resulting piece, a collagelike assembly of cut-out images and text, will be bolted to an exterior wall facing a renovated patio at the community centre.

Council has approved planning changes that will bring more residential and commercial development to Kitchener’s Hidden Valley. Work to allow for further development in the area bounded by the Grand River, Highway 8, Wabanaki Drive and the rail corridor near Fairway Road has been ongoing for years and has been controversial at times, given the area’s sensitive natural features and habitats.
