The City of Cambridge has rescinded an invitation to Canada Day festivities to a proliferation of geese living in Riverside Park in Preston. Lately, the park has been home to more than 100 geese, with feces and feathers blanketing the grass on the shoreline of the Speed River and on the ball fields. With thousands of people expected in the park for Canada Day festivities, which includes a fishing derby, a midway and fireworks, the geese are being evicted.

Fire services dispatch will not move to Waterloo Regional Police’s $173-million Public Safety Communications Centre. In a letter to Police Chief Mark Crowell and the police services board, the chief administrative officers of the region’s seven municipalities stated relocating fire dispatch to the communications centre “any time in the foreseeable future” is not in the best interest of local fire services or the community.

A 24-year-old Cambridge resident is facing charges after being stopped in a traffic enforcement initiative in Guelph-Eramosa township. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police stopped a pickup truck on Wednesday at around 3:15 p.m. and charged the driver with driving without insurance, driving without a validated permit and improper muffler. One person suffered serious injuries after a crash in the Civic Centre area of Kitchener. Waterloo Regional Police said the Wednesday crash, near Victoria Street North and Lancaster Street West, was caused by a medical episode with one of the drivers. Drivers were asked to avoid the area while police investigated. Police said they are not releasing any more information in connection with the incident.
