LINCOLN – Plattsmouth High School cheerleaders have a goal of creating smiles at dozens of activities throughout the calendar year. They were able to wear joyful looks on their own faces after earning multiple awards at a statewide camp. The Blue Devils attended a four-day Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Camp at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln July 5-8. Members of the 18-person group collected both individual and team awards during their trip.

WEEPING WATER – One of the sweetest events of the Cass County Fair will give area residents a chance to secure home-baked treats next week. The Cass County 4-H Fair Cake Auction will kick off the 2018 fair on Tuesday, Aug. 7. The cake auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Open Air Auditorium at the Cass County Fairgrounds. Cass County 4-H officials are hoping to have a large crowd attend the 12th annual event.

WEEPING WATER – Weeping Water students have been able to display their artistic masterpieces inside their school building for many years. Thousands of Nebraska residents will be able to view their creative designs on a statewide calendar in 2019. Skylar DeSanti, Cory Dayton, Bobbi Ritzman and Jessie Jordan will have their artwork featured on the new Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) calendar.

OMAHA – Plattsmouth baseball players opened their postseason Friday night with a positive first two innings against Omaha Roncalli. The Crimson Pride turned the game’s tone in their favor with multiple runs in the final three frames. Second-seeded Omaha Roncalli stopped seventh-seeded Plattsmouth 11-1 in the Class B Area 3 Senior Legion Tournament. The Crimson Pride advanced to a second-round matchup Saturday night against third-seeded Bennington.

OMAHA – The Plattsmouth Seniors came close to writing a storybook comeback against Fort Calhoun Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers avoided that script by stopping the Blue Devils in the game’s final innings. Sixth-seeded Fort Calhoun defeated seventh-seeded Plattsmouth 15-8 in the Class B Area 3 Senior Legion Tournament. The teams battled in the elimination bracket of the baseball tournament at Omaha Roncalli’s diamond. The Blue Devils finished their summer season 9-18.
