    A regular-season soccer match on a Saturday afternoon between Lincoln Southwest and Lincoln Southeast didn’t mean that much. It did for Southeast. The players for the ninth-ranked Knights were fired up after a 1-0 win against No. 4 Southwest on Saturday at Seacrest Field. When the match ended, the players celebrated with each other, and then ran to the seating area to celebrate some more with the student section and families.

    This year in high school soccer, the offense for the Lincoln East girls team has entered must-watch territory. There are probably better overall teams than East in Class A right now. But there might not be a more dangerous offense than the Spartans', and that will give them a chance to win a lot. East's attackers can beat you with speed. They can beat you with great passes. And they can beat you by keeping possession and making you defend them long enough that the defenders eventually break down.

    The second time, Emily Fisher chose Nebraska. The Maryland transfer announced on social media on Wednesday that she had made a commitment to the Huskers. From Libertyville, Illinois, the 6-foot forward had made a recruiting visit to Nebraska when she was in high school. This season as a sophomore for Maryland she played in 19 games, with averages of 1.7 points while shooting 42% from the field. She missed 11 games due to a concussion.

The programs have played several good matches over the years, both in the regular season and at the state tournament.
