The Victoria Grizzlies hit some speed bumps in their B.C. Hockey League Coastal Conference semifinal series with the Cowichan Valley Capitals, but they shifted back into high gear Saturday, and they can thank their leading scorer in the regular season. Chase Pirtle, NCAA committed to the Cornell Big Red, scored with seven seconds remaining in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and send the Grizzlies to the conference final with a 4-3 victory over the Capitals in Game 6 at The Q Centre.

The Cowichan Valley Capitals threw everything but the kitchen sink at Oliver Auyeung-Ashton on Tuesday night at The Q Centre, and the Victoria Grizzlies veteran goaltender stood tall when he needed to, backstopping the Grizzlies to a 6-3 Game 3 victory and a commanding 3-0 series lead in the B.C. Hockey League’s Coastal Conference semifinal series. Game 4 goes tonight at The Q Centre. If a fifth game is needed, it’s scheduled for Friday night at the Cowichan Community Centre.

Oliver Auyeung-Ashton is finding his groove at exactly the right time. After a rather average regular season for the former B.C. Hockey League rookie of the year, the veteran goaltender made 39 saves to lead the Victoria Grizzlies to a 4-1 victory over the Cowichan Valley Capitals in Game 1 of their Coastal Conference semifinal series. The win Friday night at the Cowichan Community Centre pushed Auyeung-Ashton’s playoff record this season to 4-0.
