On Saturday night at The Q Centre, Kyle Kelsey proved him right. With Game 1 winner Oliver Auyeung-Ashton out with an illness, the veteran Kelsey stepped in and backstopped the Grizzlies to a 3-1 Game 2 victory over the Coquitlam Express that gives Victoria a 2-0 series lead.

In a span of three minutes late in the second period on Friday night, the Victoria Grizzlies snapped out of it. The Grizzlies trekked to Port Alberni riding a five-game losing streak, but three goals in the final three minutes of the middle frame helped Victoria knock off the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 7-2 at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

LANGLEY 6 VICTORIA 3Desperate hockey teams are tough to play against, and the Victoria Grizzlies found that out Saturday afternoon in Langley. The host Rivermen came into the game at George Preston Arena clinging to the eighth-and-final playoff spot in the B.C. Hockey League’s Coastal Conference, just two points up on the Prince George Spruce Kings. And thanks to an early explosion of offence, the Rivermen stayed in control of their playoff lives by dumping the suddenly struggling Grizzlies 6-3.

The Victoria Grizzlies’ Ivy Leaguers were too much to handle for the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday night at The Q Centre. Thomas Molson, who is NCAA committed to Yale University had two goals, Princeton University-committed Seamus Latta and Cornell-bound Chase Pirtle added singles to lead the Grizzlies to a 5-0 victory over the Capitals. Grizzlies goaltender Oliver Auyeung-Ashton, who’s NCAA committed to Colgate, made made 54 saves to earn the shutout.

One down, one to go for the Victoria Grizzlies as they look to sweep their weekend home-and-home B.C. Hockey League set with the Powell River Kings. The Grizzlies (25-11-7-0) drew first blood on Friday night at Hap Parker Arena in Powell River thanks to a three-goal second period that paved the way to a 7-4 victory over the Kings (8-31-5-1), who are in last place in the Coastal Conference.

But when they did, the Grizzlies overpowered the Powell River Kings, who sit last in the B.C. Hockey League’s Coastal Conference. And the new guys found the scoresheet as the Grizzlies (22-11-6-0) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 7-3 victory.
