    Hurricane Erick weakened to a Category 3 storm before making landfall. (Bloomberg) -- Erick weakened to a tropical storm after slamming into Mexico’s southern Pacific coast on Thursday morning, battering beaches with strong winds and heavy rainfall, but without major damage reported so far. The Category 3 hurricane struck land near popular tourist resorts including Puerto Escondido and Acapulco very early in the storm season, but no deaths have been registered from its initial impact.
