Since Feb. 3, when a cyberattack shut down most systems at Lee Enterprises, the parent company of The Roanoke Times, our teams have been working day and night to bring you the complete newspaper you expect. Today, we cannot be more pleased to tell you we are back to full strength. Since last Sunday, March 23, you’ve probably noticed the newspaper has returned to its bigger size.
Shelor Motor Mile to sell Ford dealership to Duncan group

Christiansburg-based Shelor Motor Mile auto dealership group and Blacksburg-based Duncan Ford Mazda on Tuesday announced the sale of Shelor’s Ford dealership to Duncan. Larry Shelor and David Hagan purchased the former Homer Cox Ford dealership in downtown Christiansburg in 1994 and moved it to the Motor Mile complex just off Interstate 81’s Exit 118. Both the Shelor and Duncan auto dealerships have long histories in the New River Valley.

Almost two weeks ago, I wrote you about the cyberattack that affected almost all of our operations and to thank you for your patience as we were continuing to publish The Roanoke Times, though in a more compact, slightly jumbled format than usual. Last week our company, Lee Enterprises, released more details about the cyberattack in a filing with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission.

The first sign that last week was not off to a good start came early Feb. 3 when tech support alerted us that multiple systems were down. Those systems include the way ads are placed on pages, how pages are planned and designed and even how we communicate with customers. As our staff in Roanoke and elsewhere across the company adapted to find work-arounds to produce the printed newspapers and e-editions, we continued to cover news and sports and post articles on roanoke.com.
