On Monday afternoon, University leaders announced a full faculty and staff hiring freeze through the rest of the 2025 fiscal year, with a possible extension into the 2026 fiscal year. The freeze is meant to help the university “deliver” on its mission and continue progressing towards the 2028 Plan for Pitt, an initiative to improve Pitt’s campus and environment, and its established pillars, according to an email sent to faculty and staff.

The Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business ranked No. 39 on Time’s “Best Colleges for Future Leaders” list in 2025, an increase from 2024, when it ranked No. 51 out of 125 national universities. Pitt’s ability to produce future leaders is unsurprising to Sara Moeller, senior associate dean for teaching and learning.

Now that Donald Trump has been elected as the 47th U.S. president, three main political organizations — College Democrats at Pitt, College Republicans at Pitt and PittVotes — feel satisfied with their organization’s campaigning efforts this election cycle.

Both College Democrats at Pitt and Student Government Board are already strategizing on how to engage students in local politics. College Republicans at Pitt, on the other hand, do not plan to engage much in local politics.
