    Two people were taken to the hospital after a small plane crashed near Homestead on Thursday, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Federal Aviation Administration. The fire department said they got a call at about 7:36 p.m. to assist with a "possible aircraft being down in the area."An air rescue helicopter "conducted a hoist operation" to rescue the two people in the Cessna 172. The FAA said the crash happened after the pilot reported possible engine issues.

    Authorities are still searching for a vehicle that struck a bicyclist in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Doral over the weekend. It happened on Saturday at around 5:53 a.m. in the area of 95th Avenue and Northwest 25th Street. Edell Estevez Romero, 32, was on his bike and crossing the intersection when he was hit by an unknown vehicle that was going westbound on 25th Street, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office said. Estevez Romero was killed.

    A man with an AR-15 assault rifle shot at three Monroe County Sheriff's Office vehicles while deputies were responding to an apartment complex in Marathon on Thursday, according to authorities. Deputies were called to the complex on Sombrero Boulevard at around 10 p.m. for a man throwing objects from the roof, according to the sheriff's office. "Deputies heard gunshots as they approached the building," the department said in a statement.
