French restaurant Chloe by Vincent in the Mill District is starting lunch service four days a week. Restore Restaurant Holdings, which also owns EaTo, and chef Vincent Francoual opened Chloe by Vincent in late 2022. The plan was always to add lunch service, but until recently the demand wasn’t there, Matt Monroe, president of Restore Restaurant Holdings, told Downtown Voices. “What it really took was seeing business boom at EaTo, for one, and talking with our regulars there,” Monroe said.
Minneapolis seeks artists for Indigenous public art at Water Works Park

Minneapolis is conducting a statewide search for artists to create a mural or sculpture honoring the significance of St. Anthony Falls to Indigenous people, particularly the Dakota, at Water Works Park. The City’s Arts & Cultural Affairs department and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board issued a call for artists and distributed it to tribal nations and Native-led organizations in late March.

Alongside its broader downtown dashboard, the Downtown Council has developed a comprehensive retail inventory, featuring data on every retail space in Downtown East and West, North Loop, Elliot Park, and Loring Park, including the entire skyway system.

Lake State Mountaineering opens in the North Loop

A longtime Midwest Mountaineering employee just opened an outdoor adventure gear store in the North Loop. Lake State Mountaineering, located in the historic Kildall Building at Washington Avenue and Fifth Street, primarily sells equipment for climbing, paddling, and camping. Steve Schreader launched the business online last April and moved into his new brick-and-mortar space in March, with his dog, Cinnamon, in tow.

A new downtown Minneapolis lunch spot is serving Korean-inspired sandwiches, rice bowls, soups, and salads every weekday. ‍Food on the Fly smokes its own meat, makes its own sausages, and creates vegan variations for nearly every dish on the menu. That includes chef/owner Samo Newman’s smoked pork recipe that he’s been using since his days at Haute Dish, as well as a new bulgogi sausage, which has been a hit so far.

Iconic rocker Joan Jett and rapper Ludacris will headline the main stage during the 2025 Taste of Minnesota in downtown Minneapolis. The free, family-friendly food and music festival returns July 5 and 6 to Nicollet Mall for the third consecutive summer. Saturday is for classic rock, with Cheap Trick performing before Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on Saturday. Nur-D will warm up the stage for Ludacris on Sunday, the hip-hop heavy day. Local DJ Sophia Eris will spin throughout the weekend.

Kado no Mise chef/owner Shigeyuki Furukawa and Bar Brava made it on the 2025 James Beard Award shortlist. Furukawa is still in the running for Best Chef: Midwest, along with Diane's Place chef/owner Diane Moua and Myriel chef/owner Karyn Tomlinson, plus two others in the region. Bar Brava is one of five national finalists up for Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program. Spoon and Stable was a semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurant, but Gavin Kaysen's North Loop spot isn't among the finalists.
Minnesota Twins unveil Target Field’s 2025 food and beverage lineup

Chef Yia Vang is bringing a taste of his buzzy Hmong restaurant, Vinai, to Target Field this season, along with other local newcomers, including TokiDoki Burger and Niko Niko Boba. Vinai’s sweet and sour fried pork will be served in the ballpark’s Truly On Deck, located on the club level in right field. A grilled Spam sandwich and a chopped southwest burger, both from concessionaire Delaware North, are also new additions at the hard seltzer-branded bar.
