The Halifax Hoopers are gearing up to play their first home game Friday, marking the official return of men’s professional basketball to the city. Brandon Beloti, who plays forward for the Halifax Hoopers, hopes energy will be high when the team hits the hard court at the Zatzman Sportsplex in Dartmouth, N.S. “Pure energy. Cause as much chaos in the stands as possible, and just let it be known Halifax is where it’s at,” he said.

What’s the hardest part of hand sewing? “Getting the thread through the tiny hole in the needle,” laughed Laura Walton. “If you have that done, you’re ready to sew.”Walton has always had a love for fashion. She began sewing at a young age to create her own affordable pieces. “People see styles they want and like. I wanted clothing to look a certain way, but I didn’t have much money to buy all the clothing I wanted,” she said.

It has been more than a century, but fascination around the Titanic and its sinking remains. Maritime historian Blair Beed says the number 13 is significant when reflecting on the 113th anniversary of the tragedy. “If you think of the fact that it was approved for passenger service and 13 days later it was at the bottom of the ocean,” he said. For Beed, it’s the personal and human element of the tragedy that keeps him continually engaged.

Jon Denman has been living with Parkinson’s disease since 2019. “No two patients at the same, a good physiotherapist once said to me.”Denman, who is 74 years old, discovered his disease when he went for knee surgery the surgeon noticed his tremor and recommended a neurological consult. “You sometimes see symptoms years before it’s actually diagnosed,” Denman explained. “Most of us are in the 60s and 70s when first diagnosed. Some of us are just over 40.

The 2025 National Broomball Championships has kicked off in Nova Scotia. “It feels amazing. It’s really cool to come and experience other parts of the country because I haven’t been here before so it’s nice to represent Ontario coming to a different province,” said participant Ashley Harvey. Broomball – best described as a combination of hockey, lacrosse and soccer – is played on ice in shoes, not skates. “It is a beautiful sport. The people who play it, love it.
