This study examined the trends and inequalities in BCG vaccination coverage among one-year-olds in Sierra Leone. The analysis of BCG immunisation coverage among one-year-olds in Sierra Leone from 2008 to 2019 reveals significant progress, with overall coverage increasing from 82.0% in 2008 to 96.3% in 2019. Coverage was generally higher for children of older mothers (20–49), wealthier families, and mothers with secondary or higher educations.

We utilised data from the 2008, 2013, and 2019 Sierra Leone Demographic Health Survey (SLDHS). The SLDHS is a nationwide survey that aims to uncover long-lasting trends and changes in demographic indicators, health indicators, and social issues among individuals of all genders and age groups [17]. The SLDHS utilised a cross-sectional design, where participants were chosen using a stratified multi-stage cluster sampling process. The SLDHS report thoroughly explains the sampling procedure [17].

The study examined the inequalities in modern contraceptive use among women in Sierra Leone between 2008 and 2019. The study found that the prevalence of modern contraceptive use among women in Sierra Leone has increased significantly from 6.7% in 2008 to 20.9% in 2019. Overall, the results show that Sierra Leone has made progress in reducing inequalities in modern contraceptive use among women across various dimensions from 2008 to 2019.
