Community engagement manager Johanna Miyaki built upon KALW’s long-standing tradition of community engagement to create a youth-centered event series.

What was the main objective? Our goal was to reach audiences who weren’t spending much time on the internet, but could still benefit from reading THE CITY’s work. We wanted to find ways to rely less on search/social media, and connect with new, possibly less tech-savvy readers in an impactful way. It was very important to us to build a physical product that would be impactful on its own.

May 5, 2023 Lead contamination continues to be an issue in Indianapolis, though many people might not be aware of the risk it poses or how close it is to their own lives. To raise awareness and provide resources, WFYI partnered with the Indianapolis Public Library to host “Growing Healthy Communities,” an event where representatives from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and the Marion County Public Health Department provided resources about lead testing and remediation.
