It has been confirmed at last that Bam Margera will be involved with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 after all. Whether reports of Tony Hawk intervening in the development process were true in the end, the facts are that Margera will be one of the secret, unlockable pro skaters in the game. It had been suggested that Margera wasn’t expected to be on the roster at all until Hawk, the man on the box, put his foot down and effectively forced his inclusion.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater has a special place in my heart. The first game felt like an induction into a secret cult, only achievable for that brief sliver of time before skateboarding as a sport, the franchise, and Tony himself all exploded into mainstream infamy. By the fourth game, it was no more than an affirmation for me that skateboarding was it. And even if I never could manage to get the deck talking myself, the fact that I could live out that fantasy in the Pro Skater games was special.

During our hands-on with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 in Los Angeles this week, we were afforded the opportunity to sit down with Mike Rossi, the man heading up all things design at Iron Galaxy. We had a chat about what goes into rebuilding iconic video games, the challenges that came with reframing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4’s career mode, and breaking bones for the love of the game. You can find our chat below. Firstly, thanks for giving up your time to chat with us.

Although it’s one of two games releasing in May that involve a trip to the fiery pits of Hell with an arsenal of big fucking guns on your hip, it was through Shotgun Cop Man’s simple conceit that my interest grew. Crashing through the underworld’s blood-red hellscape to slap cuffs on Satan’s crusty ass is enough to get me in a seat, however, it’s through the game’s irresistible, moreish gun-propelled platforming that Shotgun Cop Man stands out as an unexpected afternoon of fun.
