We've been tracking numerous rain/graupel showers this afternoon. Snow has periodically been accumulating across the higher terrain, but warm road temperatures are limiting travel impacts. Shower activity will taper off after sunset. Clearing skies are expected overnight. The combination of clearing and a cold airmass has prompted a high-confidence forecast for widespread freezing temperatures tonight across western Montana.

Scattered showers are expected to continue across the Northern Rockies today. Several mountain passes, including Marias, Lolo, Homestake, and Bozeman Pass will see a slushy snow accumulation of up to 2 inches. Although the snow is likely to melt quickly due to warmer ground temperatures, travel may be impacted in higher elevations. A weak disturbance is expected to move through late Tuesday into Wednesday, potentially increasing shower activity. However, uncertainty remains about its exact path.

Isolated, non-severe, thunderstorms will be possible Sunday afternoon. While these storms will taper off this evening, a broader system is moving in to keep things unsettled. A Canadian cold front will bring valley rain and mountain snow tonight through Monday. Snow levels are expected to drop below 4,000 feet, with several mountain passes—including Lookout, Lolo, Lost Trail, and Marias—potentially seeing a few inches of snow by the Monday morning commute. Wind gusts of 30 mph will be possible.
