With the presidential pardon of Hunter Biden, many Americans were once again reminded that they now live under a two-tier justice system. Certain people and organizations are exempt from the normal judicial consequences of their actions, while others are not. Furthermore, the unfavored may also be punished not for any real crimes but rather for expressing unapproved opinions about politically controversial matters. As I see it, many Korean dramas have a special relevance to our current era.

The excessive medical response to the Covid pandemic made one thing abundantly clear: Medical consumers really ought to do their own research into the health issues that impact them. Furthermore, it is no longer enough simply to seek out a “second opinion” or even a “third opinion” from doctors. They may well all be misinformed or biased. Furthermore, this problem appears to predate the Covid phenomenon.

At a formal ceremony for retiring professors at my university, each retiree got an opportunity to make a short speech. In my own speech, I mentioned that my last few years coincided with the Covid panic. Far more than the disease itself, what shocked me was the worldwide mass mind that sprang into existence seemingly overnight. All over the world, suddenly people were subjected to all-encompassing propaganda and pressures to conform to the same Covid policies.
