For straters you just proposed Bivins size advantage was a factor in the win over Moore, and that size advantage was a HW weight. 1. 7 out of 11 opponents were HWs when Bivins fought them. -Maxim 178, RING #10 HW -Bettina 185 1/2 last rated as RING #4 HW -Lee Murray 202 lbs RING #3 and #6 HW -Lee Savold 195-Bob Pastor 184,183 RING #3 HW-Tami Mauriello 180, 187 RING #2 HW-Pat Valentino 1842. I don't care how boxrec classifies him. Hardly definitive. 3. 177 is still HW.

Wills faced guys taller and heavier than Jeffries. Other than Johnson, Jeff never faced any really good fighter in Wills' size range. Wills certainly defeated the better competition, if size and activity is considered in the mix. On the other hand, Jeff appears to have the better chin and was perhaps the more durable man. Punching power is hard to judge, but again might favor Jeff. More or less a toss up, but having to pick one, I go with Wills.

I think the biggest hindrance in figuring out fantasy/mythical matchups of eras is before and after the day-before weigh-in became the norm. Today’s welters come into the ring as middleweights or even super middleweights. Yesterdays were a couple pounds over the limit after weighing in day of fight. So it’s probably more realistic and fair to do a modern lightweight vs. a junior middle from past decades. Of course there’s also the question of who would fare better with modern vs.

Should be a good fight if both fighters are well prepared. Mercer beat the likes of a Ossie Ocasio W8, a very determined Bert Cooper W12, Francesco Damiani KO9, a previously undefeated Tommy Morrison KO5, Jerry Halstead KO2, Jesse Ferguson W10 (and L10 in their first fight), Tim Witherspoon W10, and Darroll Wilson W10, among others. He also lost a very close decision to Lennox Lewis that some felt he should have won. He gave Holyfield a good fight as well. 6'1" with a 77" reach. He carried 238 Lbs.
