    China's BYD could start selling its first plug-in hybrid vehicle in Japan this year, the company said on Friday, as it aims to expand its lineup in the country to seven or eight models over the next two years or so. The Shenzhen-based automaker also said it will start selling its fourth electric vehicle purely powered by batteries - the Sealion 7 crossover - in Japan from April as it seeks to expand its offerings and dealer network in the country.

    The Sealion 07 EV will enter the Japanese passenger car market this year and will be BYD's fourth model in the Japanese market after the Yuan Plus, Dolphin and Seal. In 2024, BYD sold 2,223 NEVs in the Japanese market, up 54 percent year-on-year. BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has showed off the Sealion 07 EV in Japan, as it looks to bring the battery electric vehicle (BEV) model to more international markets.

    TOKYO: China's BYD launched its third electric vehicle in Japan, it said on Tuesday, a sedan that will be its most expensive model so far in a market where consumers have long favoured domestic brands. The Shenzhen-based automaker said it had started taking orders for its flagship Seal EV in Japan from Tuesday, setting the suggested retail pricing for the rear-wheel-drive version of the vehicle in the country at 5.28 million yen (US$33,111.75).
