Herefordshire-based Oldfields Garage has completed a major expansion, increasing its workshop capacity by 50% to meet rising demand for electric vehicle and commercial vehicle work. A second safety warning has been issued after a non-compliant brake fluid was found to still be on sale, more than a year after it was deemed a risk to public safety. Early last year the Verification of Lubricant Specifications (VLS) confirmed that Mannol Brake Fluid DOT 4 3002 failed in critical performance areas required for safe brake operation. Tests carried out found that the product failed to meet specification limits stated in the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 116 DOT 4.

UK factors recorded a 3.1% year-on-year drop in unit sales and a 3% decline in value for the first nine weeks of the year, in what has been described as a “difficult” start of 2025. The data, revealed by industry analysts Factor Sales, follows a period of growth for the sector in 2024, where value rose by 5.5% and units by 0.8%.

Valeo and Stellantis have launched the first remanufactured LED headlamp in Europe and the remanufactured infotainment display screen. This extends a used product’s lifespan by restoring it to OEM specifications and with the same performance and warranty as comparable new parts. The move to extend products lifespan is part of efforts to reduce waste, resources use and carbon output. Valeo is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, with Stellantis carbon net zero by 2038.

Hand car washes across the UK have been fined £2.9 million for employing illegal workers. The investigation was carried out by the Home Office’s Illegal Immigration Unit between July and September last year. It found 44 hand car washes were breaking ‘right to work’ laws, dishing out £2.9million in fines; the biggest of £360,000 given to D&T Hand Car Wash of Leatherhead. It has not confirmed how the fines are determined.
