The idea came from watching my young son and other children unblock a water pump at a local playground. I was fascinated by their collaboration. They had been strangers to one another but came together to solve a common problem, and did so amicably and efficiently. Why, I thought, can’t we all work this way? And why are we, the adults, always rushing to the law to solve our problems when — as these kids showed me — we often have the capacity to negotiate the way out of problems ourselves?
