In back-to-back road games this week, the Salida High School girls’ soccer team tied Alamosa 1-1 April 21 and beat Vanguard 2-0 April 22. Against the Mean Moose, head coach Heidi Slaymaker said the team played okay in the first half. While they didn’t create a lot of chances, they also didn’t give up chances to their opponents, she said. In the second half, the Salida girls started combining passes and making more chances. Senior Izzy Hughes made six chances that went wide, Slaymaker recounted.

In its first large-scale public art project, the Salida Public Art Commission purchased an 18-foot-tall rabbit and a 6-foot dog that soon will be installed near the old skatepark on First Street.
