Residents will be hit in the hip pocket as the Shire of Broome passed an increase in rates for 2025-26, with the minimum residential bill now set at $1401. The rate in the dollar amount for 2025-26 is proposed to increase for all categories except tourism and commercial categories to account for Landgate’s revised valuations, which have seen a 4.4 per cent decrease across all unimproved value properties.

Footage of a dramatic arrest of a 25-year-old woman in Karratha last week has gathered more than 240,000 views on Facebook with police revealing it was the second time they had been called to the property that day. According to police, officers were called to a residence in Millars Well at 10.30am on June 2 after an alleged physical altercation between people known to each other.

The City of Karratha has put next year’s rates out for public consultation, with the average residential bill set to be $2530, with a minimum of $1750. A solar energy project for Broome has been given the green light by the Environmental Protection Authority after finding the project will have little impact on local flora. The proposal comprises 4m-tall solar panels up to 90MW, battery energy storage systems, and a 16km transmission line from a site about 10km north of Broome. EPA chair Darren Walsh said the EPA had published its decision not to assess the Horizon Power project under Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
