Court rejects Steven Avery's Request for new hearing

MADISON (WKOW) -- An appeals court has rejected Steven Avery's latest request for a hearing on new evidence as the convicted murderer seeks a new trial. The court said it disagreed on all three issues raised, including the request to hear evidence of a possible new suspect, and instead sided with lower courts. According to our affiliate in Green Bay, this is the third time Avery went before this court with an appeal.

MADISON (WKOW)-- The man who charged with killing UW-Whitewater Gymnast Kara Welsh in late August, was arraigned in a Walworth County court room Friday. Chad Richards entered a not guilty plea to first degree intentional homicide. Authorities say he shot Welsh at an off-campus apartment. Court records show he told investigators the two got into a fight and he shot her because he feared for his life. The autopsy showed Welsh was shot 8 times.
Madison woman once in hospice care says new treatment restored her quality of life

MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison woman who was once in hospice care credits a new treatment for allowing her a second chance at life. Diana Atlhaus was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in 2019. She was cared for by doctors at UW Health and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Carbone Cancer Center. She went through chemotherapy, genetic testing and immunotherapies and took targeted medications. But Diane's body rejected most of the treatments and she had severe side effects.
