GREENFIELD, Iowa — A Hispanic male is dead and a second victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries Saturday, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) said in a news release. Greenfield police received a call reporting a stabbing had occurred just before 1 a.m., and officers were dispatched to the 200 block area of NE 4th St., according to the release. When officers arrived, they found the deceased victim and injured victim inside the residence.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Multiple people are injured after a head-on collision on Hartford Avenue Wednesday evening, the Des Moines Police Department said on X. Shortly before 9:30 p.m., DMPD announced that Hartford Avenue from SE 14th Street to SE 22nd Street is temporarily closed. The crash occured in the 1600 block of Hartford Avenue, officials said. According to DMPD's Sgt. Paul Parizek, four people have been transported to the hospital.

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to involuntary manslaughter after an attack in the Polk County Jail led to a fellow inmate's death, the Polk County Attorney's Office said in a news release. 49-year-old Jonathan Lee Brewer Jr. pleaded guilty in the case involving the 2023 death of 53-year-old Michael Martin Clark of West Des Moines. Due to his habitual offender status, the release says Brewer faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced at a later date.

FORT DODGE, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating after a facility leak led to fish kill at the South Branch of Lizard Creek in Fort Dodge on Monday. The DNR advises anyone downstream to stay out of the creek at this time. According to a news release, the DNR's field office in Mason City received a call from CJ Bio America in Fort Dodge about a fertilizer byproduct that had leaked into a stormwater channel to the east of the plant.

PELLA, Iowa — The Pella Police Department is asking the public for help in locating two missing girls who are presumed to be together. According to the department's alert, the two were last seen near the Pella Middle School shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday. 13-year-old Caitlin of Pella was last known to be wearing a black t-shirt and green pants. 12-year-old Luthian of Albia was last known to be wearing a black shirt with yellow print and blue jeans.
