CRESTON, Iowa — A 22-year-old Iowa woman is dead after her car rolled over just north of Creston Sunday evening, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report. Amber Lacina of Creston was heading south on Highway 25 near 140th Street at about 5 p.m. when her vehicle drove onto the west shoulder, she lost control, crossed both lanes of traffic and went into the east ditch. The car rolled several times and threw Lacina from the vehicle. ISP said she died from injuries sustained in the crash.

DES MOINES, Iowa — A 71-year-old Altoona man was sentenced to up to 50 years behind bars on Friday after he pleaded guilty to sex acts with three children, the Polk County Attorney's Office said. According to the office, Michael Charles Ertz pleaded guilty to five counts of lascivious acts with a child for actions against minors in Polk and Dallas counties. The incidents reportedly ranged from 2013 until 2019, according to the attorney's office.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Polk County Attorney Kimberly Graham, in a Friday letter to Des Moines Police Chief Michael McTaggart, said the Des Moines police officer who non-fatally shot a suspect on March 20 was justified in doing so. After the incident, police said Senior Police Ofc. Chad Ruroden had been assaulted, leading him to shoot the now 20-year-old suspect Jose Daniel Rodriguez-Sanchez in the torso. Authorities also said Rodriguez-Sanchez attempted to take Ruroden's gun.
