Evacuations have been ordered in the Bonsall area on Monday after a brush fire quickly spread to over a dozen acres and was threatening nearby structures, fire officials said. The fire was first reported around 3 p.m. on South Mission Road near state Route 76, North County Fire Protection District officials said in a post on the social media platform X. The blaze grew from 2 acres to about 15 acres within 20 minutes, Cal Fire officials said via social media.

The final Interstate 5 exit before drivers reach the U.S.-Mexico border will be closed due to overnight construction this week, Caltrans said. Crews will close the Camino De La Plaza off-ramp at south I-5 in San Ysidro at 9 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday for pipe installation, officials said. Motorists who do not exit in time will be directed across the border into Mexico, officials warned. Signs will be posted ahead of the closures to alert drivers, officials said.
