The Aces waived guard Deja Kelly, the team announced Monday. Kelly, 23, joined the team as an undrafted free agent. The Aces now have 13 players on their roster, including veteran forward Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, who is pregnant. That means the team’s opening-night roster should be set. This is a developing story. The Aces are the only remaining defendant in Los Angeles Sparks forward Dearica Hamby’s federal discrimination lawsuit, as all of her claims against the WNBA were dismissed last week by the U.S. District Court in Nevada. A former two-time Sixth Player of the Year for the Aces, Hamby’s initial filing alleged the Aces were “unlawfully motivated” to trade her to the Los Angeles Sparks in January 2023 because she was pregnant with her second child.

Chelsea Gray’s face lit up as she was handed a tiny garment bag on her way to the photo area of the Aces’ media day Thursday. “Last year, I was barely able to walk,” she’d just finished telling reporters. “I’m just in a good space right now.”That much was evident as the three-time WNBA champion and six-time All-Star went on to pose for pictures with her 1-year-old son, Lennox, who sported his own black and silver Aces jersey to match hers.

A’ja Wilson’s voice was impossible to miss from the back of the room. “Y’all got me waiting on a rookie?” she yelled incredulously, and jokingly, as she interrupted one of the last answers that rookie second-round draft pick Aaliyah Nye was giving reporters for the first WNBA media day of her career. “Just one more question!” a giggling Nye yelled back. Once Nye cleared the hot seat for Wilson, the three-time WNBA MVP’s presence had already drawn a slew of new cameras.

The Aces cut their roster down to 14 players Wednesday by waiving 2025 draftee Harmoni Turner and fourth-year center Queen Egbo. Turner, 23, was selected in the third round of last month’s WNBA draft out of Harvard. She had four points, three rebounds, three steals and an assist in 18 preseason minutes with the Aces. Coach Becky Hammon had praised Turner for her attitude and aggressive play style. Egbo, 24, was selected 10th overall in the 2022 WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever.

Completely forgot to share this story but here’s what we learned from Becky Hammon and Nikki Fargas about the Aces’ roster construction and the front office amid all the excitement of media day ⬇️

The Aces need to make one more move to get under the WNBA roster limit before the May 15 deadline. https://t.co/53FmWBE3q1

RT @harmoniiturner: grateful for moments like these… to be continued 🧘🏽♀️

AND THE GAME WINNER. Deja Kelly just secured a 85-84 win for the Aces in their preseason finale vs. the Phoenix Mercury. What a statement performance. 15 crucial points. No better way to make a case for a roster spot.

The undrafted rookie is putting a show right now. Back-to-back jumpers from Deja Kelly to put the Aces up 83-82 with less than 30 seconds to play.
