On sunny afternoons at the Morgan Hill Community Garden, Charlie Beecroft tends to his plot of vegetables and herbs. After downsizing to a home in Morgan Hill with virtually no yard, the community garden has become his outdoor sanctuary. “For us, it was a great fit because we were downsizing from a quarter-acre (yard) in Redding to basically nothing here, and we really missed the idea of gardening,” said Beecroft, who joined the Morgan Hill Community Garden’s board of directors two years ago.

Local synagogue Congregation Emeth is launching an educational initiative in response to an incident where a Nazi flag was displayed on a highway overpass in Morgan Hill in March. Congregation Emeth is partnering with the Jewish Community Relations Council Bay Area (JCRC) and Advent Lutheran Church to present “HERE I AM: Understanding Jewish Identity and Antisemitism,” an interactive workshop scheduled for May 28 at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center.

The festival, which has been running since 1980, serves primarily as a fundraiser for high school senior scholarships and local nonprofit organizations.
