By Ditch fire Jun 5, 2025 | 9:43 AM A 36-year-old man faces charges after allegedly setting fires in a ditch near Snowden. Nipawin/Smeaton RCMP received a call about a small fire in the ditch beside Highway 55 near the Snowden turnoff early Tuesday morning. The investigation determined that a man had started a fire which had been extinguished by the Smeaton Fire Department.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency then advised the crews from Wakaw and Cudworth to stay in La Ronge and help protect the community. The organizations deployed two more members with a Tanker to meet up with the existing crew in La Ronge, and on Tuesday, they were tasked with structural protection and fire patrol in and around the community.

Fire Chief Mike Kwasnica told northeast the department was asked by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) if they could supply a pumper truck and four firefighters to help in the Weyakwin area.
