This year’s camping season is getting started with the addition of new seasonal sites and Candle Lake and Meadow Lake Provincial Park. The province announced new sites have been added to Buffalo Pound Crooked Lake, Great Blue Heron and Makwa camprounds as well. All told, 63 new seasonal sites were added along with two new Camp-Easy yurts at Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park. Bookings open for seasonal sites on April 7 and between April 8 and 15, people can book their overnight sites as well.

The City of Humboldt is preparing for the snow and wind as winter refuses to go away quietly. An Alberta Clipper is expected to bring 10 cm of snow or more to the Humboldt area, along with wind gusts up to 70 km/h. That combination is expected to make life miserable for motorists across the province. Director of Public Works and Utilities Peter Bergquist told northeastNOW that the wind can play a larger role in a storm system than one thinks.

One last gasp of winter is heading our way. The province will see an Alberta Clipper coming through on Thursday, bringing with it significant precipitation and strong wind. Danielle Desjardins of Environment and Climate Change Canada said the system is expected to arrive overnight into Thursday morning in west-central areas of the province. The system will then head east, largely following the path of the Yellowhead Highway through the central part of Saskatchewan.
