Hurricane Debby came ashore as a Category 1 storm on August 5. The storm dumped several inches of rain, especially near the I-75 corridor. In late September, Hurricane Helene became the strongest hurricane on record to make landfall in the Big Bend region. It moved inland as a Category 4 storm, bringing destructive winds and devastating storm surge.
