    Regional Office of Education 33 Superintendent Jodi Scott announced on Thursday that she intends to retire from the post on June 30. Assistant Regional Superintendent Lori Loving also will retire the same day. Scott has been superintendent of Regional Office of Education 33 since 2014 when Knox County’s ROE consolidated with Henderson, Mercer and Warren Counties. Scott most recently was elected to the office in 2022. The news release did not specify who would fill the position.

    The Miss Illinois County Fair Queen for 2025 is Johnna Fulcher of Geneseo. Fulcher was crowned the 67th Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Sunday night representing Henry County at the 114th Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs Convention on Sunday. She is currently attending Blackhawk College and will graduate this spring with an associate degree in art. She plans to continue her education at Carl Sandburg College to pursue a degree in dental hygiene.

    Two Maquon women accused of murdering the former Maquon Police Chief before leaving his body in a storage locker made court appearances Tuesday. 71-year-old Richard Young’s remain were found in October 2022, almost a year after prosecutors believe he died. The Knox County State’s Attorney alleges that both 52-year-old Marcy Oglesby and 78-year-old Karen Doubet poisoned Young in his food or drink over a period of months knowing their actions created a strong probability of his death.

    Newly elected Knox County office holders were sworn-in Monday, and with it the County Board elected a Chairman at a special organizational meeting. Republican Jared Hawkinson will remain Chair after he garnered the most votes in a party line vote, as Republican holds a 9-6 majority. Hawkinson now will serve a two-year term as County Board Chair, as he’s been since 2020. Longtime Republican County Board member Brian Friedrich, from District 5, will serve as Vice Chairman.

    The United Way of Knox County is on the search for a new Executive Director. Director Hayleigh Green is leaving to become a business teacher at Galesburg High School according to a United Way Facebook post on Tuesday. Green has been the Executive Director for the past two years, and before that was Director of Marketing and Communications. The post reads that Green’s “dedication to our organization has been invaluable.
