The Way of the Cross celebration took place in downtown Ottawa Friday morning as parishioners walked through the stations of the Cross. Hundreds of people followed the procession led by Rev. Marcel Damphousse, Archbishop of Ottawa-Cornwall. The annual tradition took from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., making five stops throughout the streets of Ottawa – starting at St. Patrick’s Basilica and ending at Notre Dame Cathedral.

Business owners in Centretown are calling on the city to take more action to reduce crime and improve services for the homeless following a pair of break-ins over the weekend. Jessie Duffy’s Arlington Five café was targeted overnight Saturday after someone smashed the back window of the business. The Red Apron grocery store just 200 metres away was also broken into and robbed on the same night.

Due to the tariff war between the U.S. and Canada, travel between both countries have changed and exhibitors are promoting more Canadian destinations. With over 150 travel exhibitors, the event will provide knowledge for consumers that are seeking travel and holiday information.

From jackets to bikes to coffee makers, the Repair Café is fixing it all. The Ottawa Tool Library holds a monthly Repair Café where people can bring broken items to be repaired to prevent them from ending up in the landfill. The Café being held at City Hall Saturday has 20 talented volunteer fixers, including five menders to get the job done. Attendees who bring their items are paired up with one of them.

Thorncliffe Place Retirement Residence in Bells Corners hosted a “thank you” lunch for the firefighters of station 43 after a terrible fire nearby earlier this month. The home is right behind the construction site that caught fire on April 1, and the residents and staff wanted to show their appreciation for keeping them safe. Some residents witnessed the blaze, and the staff say they want to make sure their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.
